Welcome to my Build Area!
Progressive Aerodyne states on their website "Kit requires 600-1000 hours to build". You can do a little mental math here and see that 600 hours part time evenings and weekends is a bit more than 1.5 hours a day. That's a snap!!! 2 hours a day and I am making water landings by next year!
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way.. There are so many thing along the way to stop and stymey you it's kind of part of the kitbuilders landscape. Anything from stalled paperwork to having an expensive time consuming 're-do" when you aren't happy with the way something turned out.
As an amateur first time builder I have gone over in my head a hundred times how long I think this project will take. How can I complete it in the most efficient time and financial frame that I can. I am sure this mindset is born from operating a small business for years and I am going to take a different approach.
The person to rush through something on my own with the DIY approach works really well in my personal and professional life. My aviation life however needs to be more humble, calculated and receptive to instruction and criticism. I suspect the time spent on this project will help me evolve into someone who takes a bit more time to complete something properly. I was once satisfied with a single check of my work. To triple check, check off and check again will be my new mantra.
I have dipped my toe into the waters of the technical SeaRey community site and have made a few contacts. Other than one post about my build site and a few replies I am going to keep the hatch shut and listen to what these guys are saying. This is a HUGE advantage in the overall situational awareness in a SeaRey. After reading hundreds of posts already I can't even imagine that someone would buy one, hit the power and rotate....
